Saturday Night Fever Dreams Pt.3  6/29

(Virtual @ the Write Brain Theater (10pm-Encores All Night)

Prepare to dive deep into the complex web of sex, drugs, & violence in these two 80’s cult classics about kingpins trying to survive in the Concrete Jungle, a place where the stakes of the game may cost you your life! In cinematic speedball; We kick things off with arguably one of Christopher Walken’s most underrated performances (even by his own standards), where he plays Frank White, a dreamer who was recently released from prison after serving a long sentence. Reuniting with his crew, he has grand plans to raise enough funds from his illicit drug trade to fix the city, but that’s hard when every gang, cop, & even your own underlings are gunning for you. We follow that up with legendary director Melvin Van Peebles’ (Sweet Sweetback’s Badassssss Song) prodigal son Mario Van Peebles’ classic film. Wesley Snipes plays a drug lord that has secured his spot among the legends, destroying the communities he grew up in with every million dollar suitcase he makes. Soon he meets his match in a young detective played by Ice-T (Ironically the musician behind the classic fuck 12 anthem Cop Killer). Known for Chris Rock’s breakout performance as Pookie, this cult classic captures the atmosphere of the 80’s; an out-of-control crack plague sweeping the decrepit streets, gang wars, & an increasingly corrupt police force willing to do anything to stay afloat in a dangerously changing world. The climax to Saturday Night Fever Dreams kicks off at 10pm EST & will be hosted by filmmaker / founder Kevin Ronca.
