Friday Freak-Out Virtual Marathon Pt.1 (11/22)
(Virtual) (Doors open 8pm EST-5am EST)
It’s our first Freak-Out Friday virtual movie marathon of this month, with this series on he last 2 Fridays of the month, covering 10 films banned in the USA split into 2 separate all-night movie marathons hosted by founder Kevin Ronca w/ special guests. This journey spans over half a century, from the pre-code era, to the absurd obscenity trials of 1973, & to the aftershock that followed, with hysteria & government censorship stretching well into the 1980’s.
For Part I, we’re beginning our odyssey w/ 5 depraved & indecent controversial films spanning from 1945-1960. From some of the films showing a youth in revolt & the rise of drug use, free love, & nudity, to films that portrayed African Americans in an equal light, or women liberating themselves sexuallity.
The exploration of this first batch of cinema allows a guest panel to critique, discuss, & analyze Hollywood’s close association early on with the influential extreme religious org the Legion Of Decency & how how racism, capitalism, & misogyny drove many of these restrictions beyond any reasons related to morality.
This Friday Freak-Out is an all-night virtual movie marathon hosted by Kevin Ronca & will feature a panel, but you’ll need to be a member to enter. Doors open 8pm EST!
