Freak-Out Friday Pt. 2 (11/29)
(Virtual) (Doors open 8pm EST-2am EST)
It’s Friday & our second installment of Freak-Out Friday, an all-night movie marathon series covering films banned in America, will pick up where our last journey left off!Â
This time in one night, Kevin + his panel will guide you from 1960-1985 with two controversial trailblazing underground documentaries & 3 masterworks of queer cinema! First, travel to the most dangerous & underfunded asylum in America in the 60s, through the lens of documentary luminary Frederick Wiseman. With this film putting him on the map, his career would span over half a century with over 50+ documentaries to his name, but few caused the public outcry than this late 60’s doc that found itself being banned in America until public pressure based on the film’s merit would eventually get it released.
This is followed by an 80’s doc acting as a cautionary tale of America’s war-mongering government leading us towards nuclear war. The US empire worked hard to keep this film banned & out of the spotlight… Until now! The other 3 films were suppressed due to the overly influential religious extremist group the Legion Of Decency, which attempted to keep the LGBT community & their cinema off the big screen & out of the homes of American families at a time where their power over Hollywood ran deep.
These 5 films will be hosted by founder Kevin Ronca w/ a panel after. You must be a member to enter. Doors open at 8 pm EST.
