Controversial International Cartoon Double-Feature (11/21)
(Virtual) (Doors open 8pm EST-12am EST)
Despite the US government always lamenting the censorship & restrictions on art in communist countries like China & the Soviet Union, it wasn’t until the late 60’s & early 70’s that either communist world power banned a work of animation. On this special night, we’ll be analyzing & exploring Asia with the infamous 1st film ever banned by the Soviet Union in 1968; a surreal & psychedelic mind-blowing piece that is a fascinating case study in the minds of the burgeoning Soviet underground art movement at the time!
All leaders should be open to criticism through, but w/ Western propaganda pumped out 24/7 & the NATO mafia constantly trying to overthrow any communist country, it’s understandable why China would be cautious of certain art entering the public consciousness, but this early 70’s animation was produced by the country’s best animators in the country at the time. W/ Mao suffering health issues & a power vacuum forming of who the next leader, would be, the artists felt the film would get a theater release. After painstaking work was done to bring together heartfelt story of a boy with a penchant for playing the trumpet coming to age during the Cultural Revolution, the film was banned instantly. This film is translated for the first time in English by our talented team.
These 2 rare animated films will be hosted by Kevin Ronca + a panel with special guests after! Doors will open at 8 pm EST & this will be exclusive for members.
