Description

It’s about that time of season for a brand-new wave of Write Brain Video limited edition VHS tapes to add to our growing library of physical media releases! Our last 6 drops have been sold out since last year, but this brand-new batch will feature 25 copies of each; a few on rare colored tape for a few bucks more!

When underground filmmaker Stephen McCoy finished the sleeper experimental analog horror film & follow-up to his SOV tragic masterpiece Nightcrawlers, he smashed his Hi8 camera & vowed to never use the format again, having spent some the best & worst times of his life operating in the tape format. Looking for a fresh start during the downtime of Covid-19 lockdowns, he picked up a second-hand 16mm Bolex camera & began his experimentation with an entirely new medium; channeling the decrepit environments, industrial wastelands, & growing dread seeping in from the shut blinds of every claustrophobic American forced to stay in their house.

A few months later, McCoy won an auction as the lone bidder for a cache of mysterious 70’s 16 & 8mm home movies from a private collection. With these new mystery reels of strangers & channeling a Chris Marker-like approach to cutting up found footage, he fused together fragments of the past & shards of his present filming to create something timeless for the future. Featuring all 7 of experimental short films shot on 16mm, both in Kodak monochromatic high contrast stock & their infamous Ektachrome, all films have been sourced from the original film prints.

These 5 limited edition copies are on a special high-grade orange VHS. Each tape comes in a clamshell with high-gloss reversible covers, giving you the final decision of which version you sport on the shelf with the rest of your collection.
